Former Disney star Garrett Clayton has already lined up his next project after King Cobra, the gay-porn drama that sees him playing twink superstar Brent Corrigan.
Clayton will be leaping back into his wholesome roots as Link Larkin in NBC’s upcoming live telecast of Hairspray.
Lark, of course, is Tracy’s love interest and supports integration in Baltimore. The role was played by Michael St. Gerard in the original 1988 Hairspray movie and by Zac Efron in the 2007 musical remake.
NBC also announced Dove Cameron, who plays identical twin on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie, has been tapped to play villainous Amber Von Tussle.
Previously announced roles include Kristin Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle, Martin Short as Wilbur Turnblad, Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton, Derek Hough as TV host Corny Collins, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle and newcomer Maddie Baillio as Tracy Turnblad.
Harvey Fierstein will recreate his Tony-winning Broadway role as Edna Turnblad.
Below, Clayton discusses the “aggressive” sexuality in King Cobra.
Hairspray Live! airs December 7 at 8pm on NBC.
