Mommy, where do gay babies come from?

A religious leader from Cyprus is preaching that a child's sexuality can be affected by "unnatural" sexual intercourse during the mother's pregnancy, Cyprus Mail reports.

Church of Cyprus bishop Neophytos Masouras of Morphou recently made the claims while speaking at an event in Akaki.

“It [homosexuality] is a problem, which is usually transmitted by parents to the child," he explained.

“To be more clear, anal sex. [Saint Porfyrios] says that when the woman enjoys that, a desire is created, and then the desire is passed on to the child.”

In other words, according to the bishop, if a pregnant woman doesn't find the anal sex pleasurable, then the child will be born straight. Phew!

After footage of the bishop’s statements went viral this week, Neophytos responded to widespread criticism Friday saying that he had “expressed the position of the Church and the position of the saints.” He also encouraged skeptics to listen to his full speech on the subject.

Not satisfied with the bishop's explanation? An anti-gay Kuwaiti academic claimed earlier this year that homosexuality was caused by an “anal worm that feeds on semen.”
