Gay Bull Saved From Slaughterhouse Faces Castration Over Bisexual Fears

Benjy, the gay Irish bull who was nearly slaughtered this month due to his same-sex attractions, will be castrated over fears that he could possibly be bisexual.

We first reported Benjy's tragic story in early November — he was persecuted by his owners and threatened with slaughter once it was noted that his same-sex desires made it nearly impossible for him to naturally impregnate female cattle.

Luckily, an online crowdsourcing campaign and Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon came to his rescue by raising enough funds to send him to the Hillside Animal Sanctuary in England. Unfortunately, keepers at the animal sanctuary aren't convinced Benjy is 100 percent gay, so they plan to have him sterilized before integrating him into their herd when he arrives.

"I know they say Benjy's gay, but we won't be taking any chances," Hillside keeper John Watson told Ireland's Independent. "Any animals that come here are neutered because we want to rescue animals in need, not breed them and fill up the sanctuary."

To make matters worse, Watson also disclosed that there are no other gay bulls at the sanctuary, meaning Benjy will live out his days as a single man. "Hopefully he won't mind," Watson said. "Cows tend to be laid back, they just live and let live."

"He'll have lots of friends," Watson added, confirming "he'll stay right here...for the rest of his natural days and I'm sure he'll be very happy." "I think he could end up with our friendly cows Clover and Bramble."
