Gay Couple Arrested For Trying To Buy Newborn Baby

The mother was also arrested for attempting to sell her child.

A gay couple and a woman who just gave birth to a baby were all arrested in Malaga, Spain after the couple allegedly tried to buy the newborn from the mother.

The unnamed woman was reportedly going to get €10,000 (or around $8,800) to hand over the baby, though it was later reported that she was actually the surrogate and one of the men was the biological father.

Despite the money exchange being a planned part of the agreement, this type of arrangement is apparently still illegal in Spain, and so all three adults were arrested and the three-day-old baby was taken into the care of the authorities.

The police found out about the exchange after uncovering hospital records that showed the woman reportedly lied by originally claiming the baby had been stillborn.

“We proceeded to the arrest of the three involved in the sale of the girl suspected of a crime against Family Relationships for Alteration of Paternity, State or Condition Minor," said a spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard. “The child has been placed under the protection of the Social Services of the Government of Andalusia.”
