The two 21-year-olds were sleeping in a single room separated from two female friends, who were using an electric fire to keep warm.

According to Facebook, the two had been dating for more than a year and were engaged to be married.

On January 5 the two men had a joint funeral, at the request of both of their parents.

"The families, at this moment of immense sorrow, wish to be close with the words of faith," Don Alessio Graziani, spokesman of the bishop of Vicenza, told Gay Star News.

Odorless, colorless and tasteless, carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of poisoning in the U.S. To find out more about CO safety, visit the CDC.
