Gay Couple Dies Together In Tragic Miami Bridge Collapse

Osvaldo “Ozzy” González and Alberto Arias were buried side by side.

A gay couple was among the six people who died last week when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in Miami.

Osvaldo “Ozzy” González, 57, and Alberto Arias, 54, were in the process of moving Arias’ elderly mother into their home on March 15 when an unfinished 950-ton concrete bridge near Florida International University crashed down onto the highway, the Miami Herald reports.

Their deaths were confirmed last Saturday when the couple's white Chevy truck was pulled out from the debris. “Imagine, his car was as flat as a cracker,” González’s sister said.

A couple for 21 years, González and Arias ran a party rental business together. They had both emigrated from Cuba in the 1980s.

Arias' nephew called the men "soulmates" and described them as “outstanding beings, full of life, full of joy, always smiling, and always putting others before them.”

“They were together in their ups they were together in their downs, they were together in their travels and enjoying life and they will be together when they are laid to rest,” he continued.

González and Arias were buried side by side on Wednesday.

The families of both men are filing a lawsuit against the companies involved in the bridge collapse.
