JK Rowling: Young, Gay Dumbledore Will Be In Upcoming Harry Potter Movies

The wizard's backstory will be explored in the new "Fantastic Beasts" films.

Fans hoping to see LGBT representation in the upcoming spin-offs to the Harry Potter franchise may be in luck, as JK Rowling revealed Albus Dumbledore's past will be the focus of future installments of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series.

Rowling revealed Dumbledore was gay back in 2007 and that he was in love with Gellert Grindelwald, who eventually turned evil and became a dark wizard.

The author said their backstories will be explored throughout the upcoming five films, so we'll likely get to see the Hogwarts headmaster meet his crush back when they were both just schoolboys.

Despite being a fierce advocate of LGBT rights, Rowling has received criticism for not including enough gay content in her creations, including a recent meltdown from fans on Twitter who demanded she declare that Sirius Black is a homosexual.

It's still unclear which of the five new films will feature Dumbledore the most, but you can watch the trailer for the first installment, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, below.
