Gay Irish Couple's Retro Wedding Is Right Out Of 1916

"I probably would’ve been burnt at the stake 100 years ago for being gay, so it’s amazing now that two men can stand up and tell the world they love each other and legally get married here."

Now that gay marriage is slowly becoming the law of the land in different parts of the world, there are sure to be some fabulous weddings popping up all over the globe.

But one gay couple in Ireland really took the idea of unique nuptials to the next level by creating a wedding that looks like it took place 100 years ago.

Mark White and Kerwin Villabolos decided to have a 1916-themed wedding to show how far Ireland has come in the last century leading up to last year's legalization of same-sex marriage in the country.

The 1916 theme goes a step further, as it represents the 1916 Easter Uprising — the historic moment when a group of Irish nationalists staged a rebellion against the British government in Ireland.

"What better way to celebrate being Irish than having an Easter Rising themed wedding?" White said to the Irish Mirror. "I probably would’ve been burnt at the stake 100 years ago for being gay, so it’s amazing now that two men can stand up and tell the world they love each other and legally get married here."

The couple was on a reality show detailing the planning of their unique wedding, and you can check out two clips from the series below.
