A gay Latino Republican was attacked at a Donald Trump rally last week in San Jose, suffering a mild concussion and broken nose in the process.

There were multiple clashes at the rally outside the San Jose Convention Center on Wednesday, when more than 300 protestors threw eggs, shouted slurs and banging on cars.

Juan Hernandez says anti-Trump protesters came out of nowhere and started throwing punches at him.

"It was riots," Hernandez told Fox News. Riots were happening everywhere, and the protesters were picking out supporters and sucker-punching them, taking them down."

A friend reportedly asked a nearby police officer why they didn't interfere and was told they were ordered to stand down by Mayor Sam Liccardo and Police Chief Eddie Garcia.

"The police personnel on scene had the difficult task of weighing the need to immediately apprehend the suspect(s) against the possibility that police action involving the use of physical force under the circumstances would further insight the crowd and produce more violent behavior," said officer Albert Morales said in a press statement.

Ultimately, San Diego police arrested four demonstrators on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful assembly.

A "Justice for Juan" rally was held at San Jose City Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

On Facebook, Hernandez lashed out at Democrats.
