Gay Man Stands Up To Knife-Wielding Homophobe On London Bus

"Are you threatening to stab me?"

A gay man bravely confronted a knife-wielding homophobe on a London bus last week.

“It is not all right to be gay," the disturbed man said in a video of the altercation posted on Facebook. "It is all right to be lesbian? It is not all right! You say anything, I’ll murder you, I’ll stab you up in your face. I’ve got a new knife. I might do that now but there’s cameras.”

Passengers were stunned by the diatribe.

“Every day I read the Bible, the Torah, and the Quran," he added. "It says when you tell the truth, the pagans don’t like that. That’s why they go home to watch batty man programs. EastEnders, Coronation Street—all them queers in it. That’s what they teach the kids... The white people are deluded. They think they’re God. Even when I’m talking now, it’s burning them.”

Eventually Daniel Simmonds had enough. The out 36-year-old confronted the man, saying, “Excuse me, I’m gay and I’m white and I don’t think I’m God. Are you threatening to stab me?”

The man then stood and replied, “You are gay? Do you know me? Don’t talk to me, don’t talk to me!”

He added, “Leave me alone ‘cause I can see what you’re up to... you are gay and you are clever. Leave me alone. You heard that, gay clever man.”

Once Simmonds responded others joined in, telling the assailant to get off the bus. Finally, the driver ordered him to leave, announcing, "Sorry you had to put up with that," as the entire bus applauded.

Simmonds (above) posted the video to Facebook, writing: “Hatred has many faces, whatever your colour, creed, sexuality or anything else. This was my bus home tonight... Thanks to the amazing TFL driver—you didn’t mess around!”

It's been viewed more than 8,000 times, with many people praising Simmonds for his courage.

“You should be so proud of yourself," wrote one commenter. "Got a little teary at the end when everyone started clapping. Well done you!”
