The Scottish parliament has just approved a marriage equality measure by an overwhelming majority. The Marriage and Civil Partnership Bill, which had the backing of First Minister Alex Salmond, passed 105 to 18. Couples are expected to start getting married later this year.

The law includes an "opt-in" clause that prevents any religious organization from being forced to officiate gay weddings.
