Gay Man Brutally Raped By Peruvian Police After Arbitrary Arrest

After filing a criminal complaint, his case was completely ignored for nearly eight years.

A gay Peruvian man who was arrested and raped by police back in 2008 finally had his case picked up by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

The defense for Luis Alberto Rojas Marin states that he was arbitrarily detained in Peru eight years ago before police forced him to strip and then raped him with a truncheon while he was in custody.

Marin was also reportedly beaten, verbally abused for being gay and robbed of his belongings during the six-hour torment.

Despite his filing of a criminal complaint, the Peruvian State refused to acknowledge his pleas, leaving him helpless until the IACHR recently picked up the case.

Peru is seen as a dangerous environment for LGBT citizens, with human rights groups reporting that nearly 100 people have been murdered there since 2008 because of their sexual orientation.
