What If "Pride and Prejudice" Was A Gay Romance?

"Before the Fall" reimagines Darcy and Bennett as two men from opposite sides of the track.

Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice has been re-imagined many times over, with iterations ranging from Reneé Zellweger in Bridget Jones to a cast of undead in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The classic novel recently got another screen adaption, though, this time with a queer twist. (No, not this.)

Before The Fall

Before the Fall sees Elizabeth Bennett transformed into Ben Bennet (Ethan Sharrett), an affluent but arrogant attorney who is strangely drawn to the unrefined Lee Darcy (Chase Conner), wrongly accused of domestic violence.

Byrum Geisler's feature film debut invokes Austin's opposites-attract trope, with the two men initially disliking each other but eventually forming a quiet friendship.

Gradually Ben realizes that, despite himself, he's falling for Lee. Eventually Lee starts to reciprocate and the two fall into a sweet gay romance that unfolds against the gorgeous mountains of Abingdon, Virginia.

Before the Fall recently played at the Virginia Film Festival. Check the film's Facebook page for upcoming screenings.
