Gay Couple Fight Election Day Woes With Times Square Proposal

"The amount of love I'm getting...is overwhelming."

A gay man who proposed to his boyfriend in Times Square in January is sharing their big moment with the world to show that #LoveTrumpsHate.

Darell told Attitude that he planned to propose to his boyfriend, Rechard, during a trip to New York City earlier this year for Rechard's birthday.

"I had planned to propose in the middle of Time Square but we got into a very heated argument minutes before," Darell said. "So as we were walking/arguing, I surprised him with the proposal."

Darell and Rechard had someone film their beautiful moment back earlier this year but he decided to share it now, in the wake of Tuesday's election results, to combat "hate and negativity" and to "keep spirits up."

For some of us, at least, it seems to be working.

"The amount of love i'm getting in my mentions is overwhelming," Darell tweeted today. "Thank you all. Please continue to spread good energy. It is needed!"

Congratulations to the happy couple!
