What did you do over the weekend? Gay performance artist Pyotr Pavlensky nailed his scrotum to the cobblestone in Moscow's Red Square to protest what he sees as his native Russia's descent into a police state. Pavlensky was taken to the hospital by ambulance before being carted away by the police.

It's not the first time Pavlensky has suffered bodily harm in the name of activism-art. In May, he wrapped himself in barbed wire to protest police brutality, and in July Pavlensky literally sewed his mouth shut to show solidarity with jailed members of Pussy Riot.
