Gay Teens, Flooding Bathrooms, And Martha Plimpton In The First Trailer For "The Real O'Neals"
It's upfronts season—when the networks roll out the shows they'll be bringing to us in the new television season. And ABC has released the first preview trailer for the Real O'Neals, a dramedy based on the childhood of Dan Savage, who serves as executive producer.
The show follows a lovingly dysfunctional Irish Catholic family in Chicago as they weather divorce, dishonesty, eating disorders, and the coming out of 14-year-old son Kenny (played by Noah Galvin).
ABC is positioning The Real O'Neals as another family comedy in the vein of Modern Family, Black-ish and The Goldbergs. The show signals the return of Martha Plimpton after the criminal cancellation of Raising Hope.
