Gay Twitter Pops Off Over Carly Rae Jepsen Being Shut Out By Grammy Nominations

Grammy voters preferred Taylor Swift's "1989" to Jepson's "E•MO•TION"

The 2016 Grammy nominations were announced earlier this morning, and featured a whole lot of love Taylor Swift (seven nominations) and Kendrick Lamar (an astounding 11 nominations), but absolutely none for Carly Rae Jepson.

That's right, Jepson's critically acclaimed E•MO•TION was shut out of every single category it was eligible for. It didn't even manage a nomination in the Best Pop Vocal Album category, which was its best shot at recognition.

Many saw this coming, given the album's lackluster commercial performance, however this news still comes as a bit of a disappointment. Jepson earned raves from just about every music publication there is; From Pitchfork to Spin magazine, even The New York Times, the critics couldn't get enough of Jepson's love letter to the '80s.

But if there was anyone who loved E•MO•TION more than music critics, it was the gays, who took to Twitter to express their (understandable) frustrations.

Other infuriating Grammy-related news items include, but are not limited to, "Trap Queen" being absent in Record of the Year, Meghan Trainor being nominated in Best New Artist despite being a double nominee last year and Beyoncé's music video for "7/11" being passed over for a nomination.
