In the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas, activist group Gays Against Guns (GAG) mobilized a peaceful protest in midtown New York.
Starting in Union Square, Monday night’s demonstration took place less than 24 hours after at least 59 people were killed by a lone gunman at the Mandalay Bay casino, more than 500 injured.

Social media was flooded with images of the demonstration, which included one of GAG’s hallmarks: figures shrouded in white to represent those killed by gun violence. The figures held placards with names and photos of victims from the Pulse shooting in an act of solidarity.

Formed in the wake of the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, GAG draws attention to the NRA’s stranglehold on Congress with direct actions in the spirit of ACT UP.
Past actions have included a “Die In” at New York Pride and the Lincoln Memorial, and a picket protest outside CrossFit after the company offered a semi-automatic pistol as a contest prize.
The group has also staged protests with puppet effigies of members of Congress, symbolizing how they are puppets of the NRA.
