An Awesome New Plugin Removes Gender Questions From Online Forms

Bye-bye, binary.

A new Chrome extension allows users to browse the Internet and fill out forms without having to fill out intrusive questions about their gender.

Created by the organizers of Copenhagen Pride, The Gender Free Internet plugin aims to let anyone to surf the web "without being put in a box."

Gender Free Internet

Gender questions on forms aren't just unnecessary, they're nearly omnipresent—despite the fact that more than half of millennials believe gender is a spectrum, rather than a binary.

"Today gender identity is a shifting landscape, and a lot of people don’t feel like complying with the gender norms,” said Copenhagen Pride organizers in a statement. “To some people, gender-specific form boxes are just as annoying and intrusive as ads on YouTube are to people trying to watch a cute cat video. The difference is that YouTube videos don’t hurt anyone’s feelings.”

In 2016, Denmark became the first country to stop regarding being transgender as a mental illness.

"With Gender Free Internet, we wish to give people all over the world the same respect and recognition by making it possible to surf the internet without being confronted with the discrimination of gender boxes," say the program's creators.

For them, the future isn't female—it's gender-free.
