Official Cause Of George Michael's Death Announced By Coroner
The official cause of death for pop icon George Michael has finally been announced: The late singer passed away on Christmas Day 2016 from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, according to senior coroner Darren Salter.
Cardiomyopathy causes heart muscles to stretch until pumping blood becomes difficult, while myocarditis produces inflammation. Fatty liver disease is often associated with consumtion of fat, alcohol or sugar.
"The investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries," Salter stated. "No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy."
The results come nearly three months after the 53-year-old's passing, and has held up his funeral. At the time, police treated his death as "unexplained, but not suspicious."
At last month's Grammys ceremony, Adele delivered a surprise tribute to Michael with a moving version of "Fast Love."
