James Franco was sorely missed at the Oscars on Sunday, but you can get your fill of Hollywood’s gayest straight man t this week at New York’s IFC Center, which is hosting FrancoFest, a screening series devoted to films he’s starred in, directed or been inspired by.
There’s no way the theater could incorporate all the gay shiz Franco’s done on screen, but some queer highlights include the Beat drama Howl; Idaho, his reworking of My Own Private Idaho; Sal, about murdered gay actor Sal Mineo; Interior. Leather Bar, his homage to 1980s S&M thriller Cruising; and The Broken Tower, the bio-pic about gay poet Hart Crane he starred in and directed (and infamously gave a simulated blowjob in).
Other fare in the fest include Spring Breakers, 127 Hours and As I Lay Dying, and Franco is slated to make several appearances for post-screening Q&As.
We’re kinda bummed they didn’t include Whatever it Takes, but we’re coping. Below, check out the trailer for Sal.
