Get in, Losers: Tina Fey Turning “Mean Girls” Musical Into a Movie

The hit Broadway show will make fetch happen on the big screen.

The Tony-nominated Broadway musical Mean Girls is being turned into a movie for Paramount Pictures, Variety reports.

Emmy-winning SNL alum Tina Fey adapted her limitlessly quotable 2004 film Mean Girls into the stage musical, updated for the Snapchat set with a new score by her husband, Jeff Richmond, and Legally Blonde’s Nell Benjamin.

"I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen," Fey says in a statement. “It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.” You go, Tina Fey!

"It has been a joy to work on Mean Girls and to watch it go from film, to musical, and now to musical film," says producer Lorne Michaels. "I am very proud that Tina’s story and characters continue to resonate with new generations."

"We’re thrilled to be bringing this iconic property back to the big screen in musical form with our incredible filmmaking team," adds Paramount president of production Elizabeth Raposo.

It has also been revealed that producers are in final talks to bring the stage musical to London’s West End. The limit truly does not exist.

Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, the Broadway musical features Grey Henson as out gay student and Drag Race fan Damian (played in the original film by Daniel Franzese), who helps an awkward newbie navigate their high school’s savage social hierarchy.

Other upcoming stage-to-screen musical adaptations include West Side Story, The Prom, and In the Heights.

Mean Girls is now playing at the August Wilson Theatre in New York.
