How "Veneno" Empowered "Drag Race" Star Gigi Goode to Transition

"That show completely opened my mind up to who I am."

The "e" may be silent, but Gigi Goode herself is ready to speak out.

The RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 queen has come out as trans nonbinary in a very personal new IGTV video.

"Let's just get right into it... almost eight months ago in January, right at the beginning of the year, I decided to begin the process of hormone replacement therapy, which for those of you who don't know is the process of taking estrogen and testosterone blockers, differing on the person, as a means of bringing in the woman and pushing out the man," Gigi said in the confessional, which she recorded while recovering from facial feminization surgery.

"I came out as genderfluid [on Drag Race Season 12]," Goode explained. "I'm leaning more towards the nonbinary side of that. It was a realization that I didn't have much time to process as the episodes were airing. I think if the world hadn't shut down and I was going on tour, I really wouldn't have been able to process it further because of the sheer fact that I had this much time to myself and to my thoughts. I had a lot of realizations. One of those realizations came from watching the show Veneno. ... The characters and the actresses who played those characters in that show completely opened my mind up to who I am, and I guess who I'm supposed to be. To me, that is a trans nonbinary person."

Goode explained how she hadn't been open about this journey earlier because she didn't want "any input from the outside world." The only people who knew what she was going through were her mom and her close friends. She also went into further detail about "FFS," or facial feminization surgery, saying she is "still going to look like me, just a little more feminine."

Goode now uses she/her pronouns and is legally changing her name to Gigi, which is "proving to be quite the long strenuous process."

"It's pretty much Gigi from here on out," she added. Congrats, Gigi! Watch her full video below.
