Gigi Gorgeous Detained In Dubai, Ejected For Being Transgender

"This further proves the need for CHANGE."

Popular YouTuber Gigi Gorgeous was denied entry into the United Arab Emirates yesterday afternoon because she is transgender.

Gigi called being detained a the Dubai airport as "one of the scariest moments of my entire life" in an emotional Instagram post, and described the humiliating ordeal to TMZ.

"I was told you are transgender. You cannot come into the country," she said an airport official told her, before forcing her back onto another plane out of the country.

Airport police claim Gigi was denied entry because she was using a passport that identified her gender as male, a point Gigi refutes because she says her passport has been updated since she transitioned.

"After being detained and held at the Dubai airport for over 5 hours, this was the moment my baby came to rescue me," she said in an Instagram post showing the arrival of her boyfriend at the Dubai airport, likely the first person who comforted her. "Yesterday was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone."

Gigi went on to condemn the ignorance that contributed to the ordeal, and said she was leaving Dubai for a destination that's "much more accepting."

"How you can be denied entry somewhere just because of who you are is seriously disgusting and also very scary," she said. "This further proves the need for CHANGE. I am now on my way to somewhere much more accepting. Safe and sound and happy. I love you guys?"

Gigi gained notoriety online during her public transition in 2013, and openly advocates for transgender issues.

According to TMZ, being transgender in Dubai is considered "imitation of women by men," a crime punishable by up to a year in jail.
