Emmys’ Cory Monteith Tribute, Rachel’s Broadway Audition, More: The Week in Gleek

A Heartfelt Glee Goodbye

The Emmys broke from tradition this year by highlighting several notable deaths outside of the traditional In Memoriam segment. Jane Lynch was tapped to honor Cory Monteith, whose inclusion sparked controversy because other, more veteran actors did not receive individual tributes.

But the haters were silenced by  Lynch’s brief, somber and touching eulogy: “To a generation that loved Cory so, please know that this gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love… And if you were lucky enough to know Cory as we did and witnessed firsthand Cory’s goofy, breezy sense of humour, his natural instinct for inclusiveness and his unbridled sense of generosity, day in and day out, I promise, you would have loved him even more.”

“I was honored to be the one that they asked to remember Cory to the rest of the country,” Lynch told E! News after the awards. “There’s a whole generation of kids whose lives have been enriched, and I’m really grateful to our show for that, and Finn Hudson and his openheartedness and inclusiveness is a big reason why kids love our show so much, and he’s gone I think it’s important for everybody to know, especially those kids, that he was as bright a light as his character.”

Glee will remember Monteith with a tribute episode on October 10.

The Look of Love

glee FOX

Although we have to wait until Season 2’s second episode to see Demi Lovato in action, Fox has released several stills of her and love interest Naya Rivera from Lovato’s Glee debut. She’ll play Dani, a singing waitress at the same joint Santana (and Rachel) gets a job at. In these images, Santana and Dani’s stroll down the street in uniform looks anything but platonic—and we’re so excited.

A Berry Broadway Audition

glee rachel berry 2

Last we saw Rachel Berry she was singing for her Funny Girl callback, and as the season begins this Thursday we find out she has a callback. But, as revealed in an exclusive clip on EW, featuring cameos by Twilight’s Peter Facinelli and Ringer‘s Ioan Gruffudd, her dreams of stardom might not come to fruition — if the length and tone of that callback are anything to go by. You can do it, Rachel! We believe in you!

Darren Criss Knows His Beatles

Glee turns to the Beatles for musical inspiration in its first two episodes this season, so Fox quizzed  Darren Criss on his knowledge of the Fab Four: Criss does admirably but, more importantly, we’re given another chance to stare at his dreamy face. Speaking of which, Criss and his cast mates re-created some classic Beatles albums to promote the new season.

Wedding Bells are Ringing

glee-max adlerMax Adler, who played closeted homophobic bully Dave Karosfsky, just announced his engagement to longterm girlfriend Jennifer Bronstein.

Adler actually proposed last year on a vacation to Rome, where he spontaneously purchased a ring during a walk around the city, but the couple doesn’t have a date in mind for the ceremony:  “There are so many things we want to do,” Adler told UsWeekly. “One day we say we want to get married in a winery in Malibu. Then it’s a rooftop in New York. Vegas, elope to a chapel. London. We don’t even know. When we figure it out, we’ll plan it. But right now we’re having a good time.”
