RECAP: How Gay Was 'Glee?'

We know when you ask, “what’s so gay about Glee?” the obvious answer is, “everything.”  But we’re here to break down the queerest bits of Glee into bit-sized morsels for your enjoyment.  Think of us as your gay cheat sheet to Glee fandom.

This week we can’t talk about anything but the amazing and insane Judy Garland Christmas Special tribute plunked right down in the middle of the episode.  In the words of Kurt Hummel, “Gay-Ditty-Gay-Gay-Gay!”

1. “This is my, um, best friend and holiday roommate, Blaine Anderson!” Kurt and Blaine play host in their “Bachelor Chalet” for Artie’s special, which he describes as Noel Coward-esque. While everyone on Glee knows Kurt and Blaine are the most stable and fabulous couple, the 60s wink-nudge to confirmed bachelors gave us, and the laugh-track, a chuckle.

2. “Let It Snow.” We’d watch hours of Chris Colfer and Darren Criss remaking all sorts of Old Hollywood classics.  Between the two of them they’ve got the versatility an talent to play any pair, regardless of gender, and they proved this on their second annual holiday duet triumph.

3. “Jewels and bowties and short pants!” When Rachel and Mercedes arrives they come with gifts -- Elizabeth Taylor knockoff gems for Kurt and Christmas tree bowtie and candycane capris for Blaine. We can wait to see how they wear their holidays gifts together.

4. Mike Chang As Santa.  We missed this the first time (for reasons explained below) but on second watch Mike’s spastic, bopping Santa might be a highlight of the whole night, and he gets Kurt and Blaine gigging at his antics.  Maybe not gay, but deserving of a honorable mention in our list.

5.  Ribbon dancing, sexy-Santa Cheerios singing “Christmas Wrapping.” Yes, please.
