“GLOW” Is Jumping Back in the Ring for a Third Season

Pass the hairspray.

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling will return because Netflix announced it has renewed GLOW for a third season.

The series, about '80s female pro wrestlers, first premiered in June 2017. Currently, on its second season, fans of Glow love it for its smart writing that tackle real-world issues of sexual harrassment and women in the workplace, the mix of comedy and drama, and the colorful cast of characters. When news of the series' renewal hit, the show took to their official Twitter page to share their excitement:

The show was also included in this year's round of Emmy nominations, which is rumored to be what gave Netflix an interest in renewing the show. As Variety wrote, "Industry sources claim that the series is not among Netflix's most watched, but is valued by the streaming service for its creative execution and status as an awards contender."

Glow's appeal with fans also comes, in large part, to its fierce female characters, including the Mexican-American lesbian wrestler, Yolanda.

Shakira Barrera, who plays Yolanda, spoke with NewNowNext about the significance of her role helping to improve Glow's previously lacking LGBTQ representation from the first season: "I’m so excited to be representing the LGBTQ community. Honestly, Yolanda doesn’t feel like my character because she’s the LGBTQ community’s character. She’s a Latina, too—she’s Mexican-American—and that combination means so much to me."

"I have so many Latina and gay friends who want to see themselves represented on TV, so I feel an extreme amount of responsibility," she added. "I hope people like her as much as I like playing her."

Look for the third season of GLOW to premiere next year on Netflix.
