Godfrey Gao On How He "Fell" Into Modeling

"Maybe five minutes later, I was in his car driving away to his wife's agency."

With striking good looks and a charming personality, you'd think Godfrey Gao would have dreamed of a career in entertainment from the start.

The 31-year-old model sat down with Asians On Film, however, and revealed his successful career is something he just sort of "stumbled into."

The Taiwanese-born actor was into sports during college in Vancouver, but first tried modeling when his brother asked him to step in for him on a catwalk gig.

Gao got good reviews, but didn't think much of it, and instead considered a move back to Taipei to play basketball.

During a visit to the city with his brother, he was introduced to a famous television producer who took an immediate interest in his piercing good looks.

"He came out of the office smoking a cigar, looking at us up and down like, 'You guys are not from here, right?'" Gao remembers.

The next thing he knew, "ten paparazzi photographers" came to take his picture and he was suddenly in the producer's car on a ride to sign with his wife's modeling agency.

It was then that he tried acting for the first time, booking a role as the second lead in a Taiwanese TV drama, and eventually working his way up to starring in 2013's The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
