The Grammy nominees are being announced this evening, so today we will try and give our best bet as to who will be nominated in some of the major categories. The very talented and wonderful Mr. Mark Blankenship already gave his opinion about the Best New Artist category, so it is now up to us to tackle Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Here goes.

Song of the Year

  • Adele, "Set Fire to the Rain"
  • Frank Ocean, "Thinkin Bout You"
  • fun. "Some Nights"
  • Gotye feat. Kimbra, "Somebody That I Used To Know"
  • Mumford and Sons, "I Will Wait
  • First things first, yes, Adele is eligible here, and yes, I think she is probably going to win. It is a songwriting award and, with the exception of maybe Ocean, she kills the competition. Also, Gotye technically should not be eligible as his song was released in July of 2011, but I am sure they will bend the rules for the biggest song of the year. Same goes for fun.'s "We Are Young" which is why I went with "Some Nights," which I believe to be superior anyway.

As for that other big song of the year, "Payphone" by Maroon 5, I just don't really like it and can't stand to put it in here. That being said, I would not be surprised to see Drake "Take Care" or Taylor Swift "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" slip in and knock out two of these folks. And I would love to Se P!nk in here for "Blow Me One Last Kiss."

    Record of the Year

  • Adele, "Set Fire to the Rain
  • Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe"
  • Drake, "Take Care"
  • fun., "Some Nights"
  • Gotye feat. Kimbra, "Somebody That I Used to Know"
  • Again, maybe Maroon 5 or Frank Ocean gets in, would really love to see P!nk and, we can't count out a country song, there just weren't any that were super, super strong this year. Maybe "Over You" by Miranda Lambert?
