Grandma Goes Viral for Ironing Granddaughter's Bisexual Pride Flag

"Such a simple gesture, but it holds so much love and meaning for me."

A grandmotherly act of love and pride is going viral and it's easy to see why.

A young woman in Virginia named Lexie tweeted out a picture of her grandmother ironing her bisexual pride flag ahead of this past weekend's Capital Pride in Washington, D.C.

“I got up this morning to get ready for #DCPride. My grandma walked into my room, looked at my bi flag, and said, ‘Oh, this needs to be pressed out!’ Such a simple gesture, but it holds so much love and meaning for me,” Lexie wrote. The message has been retweeted over 33,000 times and liked over 239,000 times.

In a subsequent tweet, Lexie explains that the "simple gesture" was that much more powerful considering she had resisted coming out to her grandmother for fear she'd get an unfavorable response. She couldn't have been more wrong.

"She said, 'Okay, that’s fine,'" she recalled of the moment she told her grandma she was bi. "She taught me to love and accept all people, and she has always been supportive of me."

Lexie noted that the post had gone viral with another tweet, where she shared a picture of the two of them together, writing, "here's another picture of my grandma because I want the world to see how beautiful she is! Show her some love! Happy pride y’all."
