Greg Louganis Launches “Empowering” Active Fashion Line

The greatest diver in Olympic history wants to "connect with and meet fans all over the world."

Out American diver and four-time Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis is launching a new activewear line to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his first Olympic medal.

Louganis announced a $100,000 Indiegogo campaign to help fund the new line of limited edition t-shirts in a Facebook post this week.

“Having accomplished so much throughout his illustrious career, as the greatest Olympic diver in history, a mentor, writer, humanitarian and an activist for HIV/AIDS, this Indiegogo campaign marks the next step of Greg’s journey,” the post reads.

In addition to “funding an activewear line of clothing that empowers you to perform at your mental and physical best,” Greg says funds will go toward “materials, inventory and design” while a portion of proceeds will benefit the Crossing the Line Sports Summit and the Point Foundation.

In addition to his career as a diver, Louganis is widely known for coming out as HIV-positive and becoming an HIV/AIDS activist at the height of the AIDS crisis in 1988, his 1996 best-selling autobiography, Breaking the Surface, and the 2015 HBO documentary Back on Board.

Greg said in a video posted on YouTube that he’s enjoyed how social media has helped interact with his millions of fans in recent years, and hopes his foray into fashion will help him “connect with and meet fans all over the world in a more deep and meaningful way.”

Backers of the campaign can receive different perks depending on their donation amount, from items from the new activewear line to a Skype call from Greg, and even a two-hour private diving lesson.
