Out Actor Greg Rikaart Returning To "Young And The Restless"

Kevin Fisher is coming back to Genoa City.

Greg Rikaart, who was let go from The Young and the Restless this past spring, will return to the CBS soap opera, EW reports.

After Rikaart had played reformed perp Kevin Fisher on the daytime program for 14 years, producers declined to renew his contract. Last seen in July, Kevin worked for the Genoa City Police Department and had a daughter with wife Chloe. But the character was not killed off, leaving the door open for Rikaart's potential return.

Rikaart will be back as Kevin for two weeks starting September 20. Although he's only scheduled to appear in a few episodes, it should be noted that Rikaart's original 14-year run also began with a two-week stint.

Fourteen years ago, I booked a two-week long gig on The Young and the Restless. In my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined what it would turn into: a career-defining experience that has brought me so much happiness and fulfillment. Playing Kevin and watching him evolve over the years has mirrored my real life in so many ways. We both found love, both became dads and we both have more gray hair now than we did in 2003. I have such love and fondness for the cast and crew of Y&R that when I watch Kevin enjoying himself in scenes, it's hard to know where he ends and Greg begins. At the moment it is unclear what lies ahead for Kevin and I, as we will be saying goodbye to Genoa City for a while. I am sad to leave a place I hold so dear but also really excited about what the future holds. I cannot overstate how much gratitude I have to all of you who have been such loud cheerleaders for me. You've all enriched my life. So stick around. The journey is just beginning. :)

Rikaart, who came out publicly as gay in 2013, had been a fan favorite since joining the cast in 2003. He won a Daytime Emmy for his work in 2005.

“At the moment it is unclear what lies ahead for Kevin and I, as we will be saying goodbye to Genoa City for a while,” the actor wrote on Instagram in May. “I am sad to leave a place I hold so dear but also really excited about what the future holds."

“Playing Kevin and watching him evolve over the years has mirrored my real life in so many ways,” he also wrote. “We both found love, both became dads and we both have more gray hair now than we did in 2003."

Rikaart married his longtime partner, writer Rob Sudduth, in 2015, and they became parents last summer.

“We fight hate, fear, bigotry, homophobia and injustice in the world with love, intellect and enlightenment,” he posted when announcing the birth of their son.

At the 2015 Daytime Emmys, Rikaart spoke to Gay Star News about the possibility of his soap character also coming out as gay.

“I think it would be a super interesting story to tell,” he said. “I think it would be more socially responsible than just bringing on a gay character—to have someone on the canvas that the audience knows and thinks of as family and takes that [coming out] journey.”
