“Grimm” Zombie Apocalypse and Are Hunky Guys the New Ad Trend?

ABC’s upcoming singing competition Sing Your Face Off just got amah-zing thanks to some news from EW with the addition of John Barrowman as host and Debbie Gibson as one of the judges. The series features five celebrities trying to learn to perform the works of different music icons. Okay, that doesn’t sound like a compelling show, but I’ll tune in for Barrowman.

 John Barrowman

Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim promises TV Guide that the second season will feature two big villains — one who is Dark Archer-inspired and another who will mimic Malcolm Merlyn. See, when you hire John Barrowman to play your villain, you need two characters to fill the gap.

As you would expect, Doctor Who fans have started taking scenes from the series and photoshopping Clara into them. I’m still deciding if this is embracing the revelations of the season finale… or it’s one of those grumpy memes pointing out the ridiculousness of a plot twist.

Doctor Who Clara memePeekaboo! Retroactive continuity!

After playing Phyllis for 16 years, Michelle Stafford told E! news that she’s quitting The Young and the Restless. With the current leadership, Y&R viewers would have ended up missing Phyllis either way.

The new hunky Dr. Pepper ad with model Josh Button is part of a trend in advertising — along with Kraft Dressing’s “Zesty Guy” and the new diet Coke hunk — to use hot guys to get the attention of women, who are typically in charge of deciding which products everyone in the house uses. USA Today looks into the trend and notes that we can probably hope for a few more ads like that (especially if a company wants to get noticed online), at least until hottie pitchmen become so commonplace it fails to get you to look at the ad.

Josh Button's Dr Pepper ad I approve of this trend.

NBC is beefing up its summer programming with the addition of Siberia, a found-footage horror drama about a reality show where 16 people are left in an area of Siberia where a meteor landed. Once someone gets hurt and producers don’t step in, everyone realizes something is wrong. First they grab my attention with a show within a show, then they lose it with the found footage.

Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio are joining the judges’ table at The X-Factor.

Jane Lynch is visiting today, hopefully to discuss playing Miss Hannigan in Annie.

My listings don’t mention Will or Sonny but they’re still on kidnapper’s island with Gabi and Nick participating in the loudest escape attempts.

The Ghost Army (PBS) Check local listings
I love learning the little bits of history that don’t make the main storyline. This documentary has a great one, focusing on the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, a secret group that used a variety of tricks to create the illusion that the American army was much busier than it really was during WWII , which nicely mixes undiscovered history and ingenuity.

Grimm, "Goodnight Sweet Grimm"

Grimm (NBC) 10:00 PM ET
Things got pretty crazy last week with the Royals in Portland, Baron Samedi somehow in cahoots with them and Juliette finally becoming a full part of the Grimm gang. (Also stuff with Adalind.) It’s going to be a hella lot of fun to see how that builds to a season-ending cliffhanger

Awkward. (MTV) 10:00 PM ET
It’s time for homecoming and at Palos Verdes the tradition of boys “pinning” their girlfriends has become a rather elaborate ritual. Jenna being Jenna, she finds ways to feel guilty about finally getting pinned.

Chopped (Food Network) 10:00 PM ET
Things change up this week as the challengers are tasked with turning the mystery baskets not into appetizer, entree and dessert but breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since I’m one of those people who is fond of breakfast dishes served after noon, I’m far more excited about this than I should be.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC) 11:35PM ET
Eric Stonestreet will be chatting with Jay tonight.

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!

Lyle Masaki is a fan of obscure superheroes, video games, adorkable guys and that show you loved that got cancelled way too soon.
