Politician Declares "War" On Grindr

"It is completely unacceptable!"

A British politician has "declared war" on dating apps like Grindr and Tinder for the dangerous situations he feels they put their users in.

John Leech says it isn't right for the apps to send people out with "complete strangers" without providing them with tips or precautions on how to stay safe.

“It is completely unacceptable that neither of the two leading dating apps display safety alerts or notices at any point from download to real life use, not even anything as simple as meeting somewhere public and letting a friend know where you’re going," Leech told PinkNews in a statement.

The former MP says it's a "serious and shocking lapse in care" on the part of the dating apps, and demands that they "introduce safety alerts immediately, and dramatically increase the safety of users, and they must do it now.”

Leech also wants to see schools start to teach about the potential dangers of hookup apps as part of their sex-ed programs.

We put together our own list of tips on how to stay safe while using apps like Grindr and Scruff, and you can check them out here.
