Guess What NBC's Next Live Musical Will Be?

No, it's not "Hamilton."

At the Television Critics Association winter press tour, NBC announced it had picked the next production for its live musical franchise.

Following The Sound of Music, Peter Pan and The Wiz, the network will roll out a live version of Hairspray.

Originally a 1988 John Waters movie, Hairspray was adapted for Broadway in 2002, and showered Tonys on lyricist-composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and writers Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.

In 2007, the musical version was adapted for film.

Telling the story of Tracy Turnblad, a chubby Baltimore teen who dreams of appearing on—and desegregating—a local TV dance show, Hairspray is best known for songs like "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat."

The role of Tracy's mom, Edna Turnblad, was originated by Divine, and played by Harvey Fierstein on stage, and then John Travolta in the 2007 film of the musical.

Who will play her in NBC's version? Hmm, who do we know that can sing, wear a dress and has an affinity for John Waters?
