Gus Kenworthy And Boyfriend Matthew Wilkas Iconically Recreate “Making A Murderer” Scene

"What's your favorite animal?" "It's a cat."

Fans of Making a Murderer – Netflix’s gripping ten-part docu-series about the troubled life of convict Stephen Avery – will surely appreciate Gus Kenworthy and his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas’ spot-on recreation of one of the show’s most memorable exchanges.

For some nutshell context: Stephen Avery served 18 years in prison for a sexual assault conviction but was exonerated when DNA analysis pointed to another man. Two years after his release, amidst a lawsuit in which he was seeking $36 million from the the country, its former sheriff and former district attorney, Avery was convicted for a murder he, to this day, claims he is not guilt of.

During the heartbreaking scene the boys are recreating, Avery’s 16-year-old nephew Brendan Dassey (who was also convicted for the murder) calls his mother Barb Tadych, Stephen’s sister, to let her know that he lied during his interrogation about having committed the crime.

Barb: Well, how you going to turn everything around now?
Brendan: I don’t know.
Barb: Well, you better just starting putting your head on your shoulders and start thinking.
Brendan: How can I? I’m really stupid, Mom. I can’t help it.
Barb: Why do you agree to everything then?

“It just came to us goofing around,” Wilkas tells us. “We’ve been obsessively watching the show just like everyone else and those Wisconsin accents are infectious.”
