What Can You Learn From Gwyneth Paltrow's Anal Sex Guide?

Her Goop scoop isn’t just for hetero couples.

“If anal turns you on, you are definitely not alone," reads a new post about anal sex on Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow's upscale lifestyle site.

Goop, which has been known to sell a $15,000 24-karat gold dildo, goes deep into the penetrating subject for its second annual Sex Issue with psychoanalyst and author Paul Joannides, who answers many burning questions about the backdoor approach.

Although the luxury site is primarily aimed to, well, people who look like Gwyneth Paltrow, the post doesn't ignore men who have anal sex with other men, particularly when it comes to health risks.

"Unprotected anal sex, regardless of whether it is practiced by straight or gay couples, is considered the riskiest activity for sexually transmitted diseases because of the physical design of the anus: It is narrow, it does not self-lubricate, and the skin is more fragile and likely to tear, allowing STDs such as HIV and hepatitis easy passage into the bloodstream," Joannides says.

His Goopy advice on communication, relaxation, and accident prevention just make good sense for any bottom. "Do not use numbing lube, and do not have anal sex while drunk or stoned," Joannides warns. "Pain is an important indicator that damage can occur if you don’t make the necessary adjustments, including stopping."

Joannides also notes that the popularity of anal in porn doesn't necessarily reflect the reality in gay couples. "I’ve seen studies suggesting that 65 percent of men have anal sex, and others that suggest the figure is less than 50 percent," he says. "So, I don’t have exact figures for hetero or homosexual couples, but there is data suggesting that a good percentage of gay men would rather give and receive blowjobs than have anal sex."

Buy him a $15,000 dildo, however, and he'll probably do whatever you want.
