Halle Berry Responds to Critics Who Questioned Her Son Wearing Heels

"It's harmless fun."

These boots were made for walking—and kicking your homophobic comments out of Halle Berry's life.

In a recent Instagram post, the Oscar-winning actress deftly shut down bigots who took issue with an adorable video of her son Maceo wearing heels. The video sees the 6-year-old trot strutting through Berry's home in flannel pajamas and a stunning pair of stiletto-heeled white boots.

"Quarantine Day 12," Berry captioned the post for her six million followers.

In response to one wary commenter, who asked if the video featured Berry's "daughter or son," the actress had the perfect response: "It's harmless fun. It's tight on these kids right now. Let's have a laugh and some compassion, yaw!"

And when another commenter misgendered Maceo, Berry politely corrected them.

"Well, it's a he," she wrote, "and he is having a ball. Tryna cope the best he can. Laughter helps a lot right now!"

Amen to that—and to supportive parents like Berry, who recognize that putting on a pair of heels doesn't say anything about your sexual orientation or gender identity.

Celebrities like Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union-Wade have also recently spoken out in support of their gender-expressive child Zaya, who is "one of the young faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ community," according to the 12-year-old's proud parents. In fact, the entire Wade family donned matching formal attire for Zaya's red carpet debut last month.
