Halsey and Lauren Jauregui Perform Same-Sex Duet "Strangers"

The bisexual pop stars sing their Sapphic love song together live for the first time.

Openly bisexual pop singer Halsey just released her new album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, last week, and she performed several tracks on the Today show this morning, including her same-sex single "Strangers," featuring Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui, who's also openly bisexual. The duo delivered their first live performance of the lesbian-themed song, keeping it morning show-friendly but still sensual and inspired.

In a recent interview, Halsey said she and Jauregui were going to stay away from any hyper-sexualization of the love song in performances. "[The video] is not going to be me and Lauren half-naked in a bed making out with each other," she said, "which is exactly what everybody fucking wants.”

In the same interview, Halsey revealed that Universal—her record label—had initially offered Katy Perry to be her duet partner, but Halsey wasn't having it. "I was like, I’m not putting an artist on this song unless they’re fucking gay."

Halsey's desire for authenticity has paid off. "Strangers" debuted at the admirable No. 100 on the Billboard charts, following behind Halsey's first single off the album, "Now or Never," which is currently at No. 26. Early reports indicate the album itself will be No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200.
