It's a Studio 54 Stud-Fest in First Trailer for Netflix’s "Halston"

"I'm going to change the face of American fashion..."

There's a party happening at Studio 54, and you're invited — from your couch, that is.

Last week, we got our first glimpse at the cast of Halston sporting their best Ultrasuede. Now, Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming limited series about famed fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick.

The preview shows Halston (played Ewan McGregor) building up his fashion empire and fighting to keep it against a backdrop of drugs, sexy shirtless guys, and Studio 54 dance parties. What more could you ask for from a glitzy Ryan Murphy series?

In addition to studs and Studio 54, we also get a first look at Krysta Rodriguez as Halston’s best friend, Liza Minnelli, and Gian Franco Rodriguez as Halston’s longtime lover, Victor Hugo.

“After a long 20 years of twists and turns, the limited series Halston starring the fantastic Ewan McGregor began production today,” Murphy said in a statement from last year. “I am so proud of our director and leader Dan Minahan, and Christine Vachon of Killer Films. I am thrilled to be producing this great and meaningful show with them and Alexis Martin Woodall and Pamela Koffler.”

The real-life Halston, a milliner from Indiana, rose to fame after designing Jacqueline Kennedy’s pink pillbox hat for her husband’s 1961 presidential inauguration. His celebrity clients included Lauren Bacall, Margaux Hemingway, Anjelica Huston, Bianca Jagger, and Elizabeth Taylor. The Studio 54 regular also designed uniforms for the U.S. Olympic team, Girl Scouts, and Braniff Airways.

Halston faced severe backlash when he began designing for J.C. Penney in 1982. Following a hostile takeover, his company was eventually acquired by Revlon, and Halston ultimately lost control of his international fashion empire. Sadly, he died in 1990 from AIDS-related complications at the age of 57. (His life was also the subject of an eponymous documentary from 2019.)

Halston hits Netflix on Friday, May 14. Until then, put on some disco music and take a gander at the trailer below.
