Happy 3/14, a.k.a. “Pi Day,” a festive occasion for math nerds and dessert lovers alike. Let’s take this celebration one step further and chew on the greatest pie scene in movie history.
You may have selected Octavia Spencer’s scene-stealing work in The Help.
Or maybe Jason Biggs’ virginal dalliance with an apple pie in American Pie.
Maybe it’s Mrs Lovett’s number in Sweeney Todd, where she waxes poetic about “the worst pies in London.”
But for me, it’s a scene from one of my favorite movies, the coming-of-age jam Stand By Me. In it, Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell as a bunch of 1950s kids who embark on a trek to find the body. Around a campfire one night, Gordie (Wheaton) invents a tale about a pie-eating contest and Lardass, the bullied kid who figures out a brilliant way to get revenge against his awful town.
You’ll never eat pie the same way again.
What’s your top pick in pie cinema?
