Transgender Girl Dedicates Her Quinceañera To Trans-Godmothers In New HBO Documentary

"These women didn't get to celebrate their quinceañera."

HBO’s upcoming docu-series 15: A Quinceañera Story will chronicle several young Latinas in the United States as they prepare for the celebration of their 15th birthdays, and one of the subjects is a transgender girl named Zoey.

The series consists of four short films airing over four consecutive nights, and the debut on December 19 features the transgender Mexican-American celebrating her birthday in south Los Angeles.

The 15-year-old’s big day is just as important for her trans-godmothers, who never got to have a quinceañera of their own. They join Zoey’s mother for the milestone moment to make sure that the young woman’s transition into adulthood is a night she’ll never forget.

Executive produced by music executive Tommy Mottola, 15: A Quinceañera Story premieres on December 19. Check out a trailer for the series below.
