If you can identify the phrase “I use my grand IQ to decide what lip gloss to wear in the morning” then we have news for you: TV Land has ordered a pilot for the proposed Heathers reboot with writer-director Leslye Headland (Bachelorette, Sleeping With Other People) set to direct.
The original 1988 film starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as nihilistic teens squaring off against the most popular girls in school.
The Hollywood Reporter describes the new version as a modern-day black comedy with a new set of Heathers: “Heather McNamara is a black lesbian, Heather Duke is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath; and Heather Chandler has a body like Martha Dumptruck.”
The series is believed to be an anthology, with a different setting, and different clique of “Heathers,” each season.
“I related [to the movie] so much,” Headland told THR. “I can’t believe they got away with so much. The movie was a huge influence on an entire generation and it’ll be nice to introduce this to a new generation.”
Film reboots are all the rage in television: MacGyver, Training Day and Frequency are already on the air, with The Lost Boys, Varsity Blues and L.A. Law in the works.
We’ve got our heart set on First Wives Club, starring Alyson Hannigan, Megan Hilty and Vanessa Lachey, as a potential gay fave.
