Will John Cameron Mitchell Step Into "Hedwig" On Broadway?

Is John Cameron Mitchell returning to Hedwig and the Angry Inch next year? He did originate the role of an "internationally ignored" transgender pop singer from East Germany, and with current star Michael C. Hall slated to leave after New Year's, Page Six is reporting there's talk of JCM stepping in to replace him.

The theater world’s buzzing that John Cameron Mitchell — the original star of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” off-Broadway in 1998 — will return to the show during its current hit Broadway run once Michael C. Hall turns in his wig on Jan. 4.

“Word around the Great White Way is that the show’s creator and original star will be donning the stilettos again,” said a dramatic source.

Hall, of course, took over the part from Andrew Rannells, who replaced Neil Patrick Harris. Hedwig and the Angry Inch  was the big winner at the 2014 Tonys, nabbing Harris a Best Actor and the show a Best Revival award.

We were fortunate enough to see Mitchell in the role off-Broadway some years ago, and the idea of him reclaiming the part on Broadway makes our wig curl.

Of course we've made it pretty clear who we really want to play Hedwig next.
