Heineken's Amazing New Ad Is Everything Pepsi's Wasn't

The beer brand hits all the right notes in its timely "Worlds Apart" spot.

In the wake of Pepsi's widely-panned attempt to create a socially progressive commercial, Heineken has debuted an ad that is, thankfully, everything Pepsi's wasn't.

The beer brand's latest commercial brings together six strangers with opposing views on climate change, feminism and transgender rights. Without any context, they're pulled into a room and instructed to build a stool and a bar. They're then invited to ask and answer a series of questions in order to get to know one another.

The three pairs get on quite well and discover they have a lot of things in common. After fifteen minutes, they're directed to grab two beers from an ice bucket and place them on the bar.

Each person then finds out that their new friend stands on the opposite side of them on one of the issues they care most about. After hearing the news, they're told they can either drink the beer and discuss their beliefs or leave.

In a time when opposing political views are threatening to permanently divide us, what happens next is an eye-opening look at how powerful it can be to reach across the aisle and engage with someone who's different than you.
