Not only was Vito Russo a founding member of ACT UP and GLAAD, he created one of the first LGBT-focused TV shows in America, Our Time, which ran for 13 episodes on New York public-access channel WNYC in 1983.

The series featured interviews with seminal figures in the LGBT scene—including Larry Kramer,  Rita Mae Brown, Quentin Crisp, Tennessee Williams, Harvey Fierstein and Lily Tomlin—but has never been available online.

Jeffery Schwarz and Lotti Pharriss Knowles, who brought us the Emmy-nominated HBO documentary Vito have launched a new Kickstarter campaign to digitize all thirteen episodes and upload them to YouTube for free viewing. Above, Schwarz explains why the series is so important and the need for it to be seen by a new generation.
