Historic Australian Football Team Sports Rainbow Jerseys To Support Out Player

Score!

Members of one of Australia’s oldest soccer teams gave their drab uniforms a fabulous rainbow makeover this weekend in support of gay players everywhere.

Australia’s 9 News reports amateur members of The University Blacks wore the jerseys and played on a field that had a giant rainbow painted over the 50-metre line as part of their “Gay, that’s ok” initiative, which was inspired by former player Lachlan Beaton, who came out in a viral video earlier this month.

"We just think that AFL and sporting clubs can do a lot in this space, by physically coming out and saying it's ok to be gay," Beaton's twin brother Charles told the outlet.

The Victorian Amateur Football Association doesn’t currently have any openly gay players, but it looks as though they’re more than ready for one!

Lachlan added, “I really feel there are such strong leaders, that it would be such a great show of support to the community if one of them did [come out.]”
