This New HIV-Prevention Ad Featuring Alex Newell Is Everything

The "Start Talking. Stop HIV" campaign was spearheaded by the CDC.

The Centers for Disease Control just released "Start Talking. Stop HIV," a fierce new video promoting the importance of having an open dialogue about HIV status and prevention.

Set in a colorful and lively gay club, former Glee star Alex Newell croons a crowded room of joyful dancers looking to make some midnight love connections.

Over the course of the video, we follow different couples as they pair up and have conversations about protection and HIV. One couple takes an at home test, another settles on condoms and a third is shown taking PrEP the following morning.

"This is an authentic campaign with gay men involved in both the campaign staff and creative team," said Manny Rodriguez, part of the creative team at agency FHI360 that helped make the video. "Our goal was to marry CDC research with something that is accessible and enjoyable to watch."

"We know that having conversations about HIV can increase good health outcomes and strengthen relationships," added Alberto Santana of the CDC. "We also wanted to playfully connect to pop culture. We are putting out important information, and doing it outside the normal means."
