Original Sanderson Sisters Will Run Amuck in Disney+'s “Hocus Pocus 2”

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are Salem-bound!

Did someone light a black flame candle? The original Sanderson Sisters are returning to Salem.

Back in October, Bette Midler revealed that the original Hocus Pocus trio — Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy — would be reprising their roles in the long-rumored sequel of the 1993 cult classic.

Midler's tease has been made into a reality, with Disney announcing on Thursday (May 20) that three actresses are confirmed to star in Hocus Pocus 2, which will premiere on Disney+ in 2022.

According to the press release, in Hocus Pocus 2 "three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world."

Sounds familiar.

The original film's director, Kenny Ortega, will not be stepping behind the camera for the sequel. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses) will helm the movie, with Adam Shankman on board as executive producer.

“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” said Fletcher in a statement. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Midler, Parker, and Najimy most recently hopped on their broomsticks when they reprised their roles for last year's virtual fundraiser, In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover.

“They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes,” Midler told New York’s Fox 5 while promoting the event. “I’m game, I’m totally game.”

Get ready for some sassy sorcery — and hopefully a new Midler musical number — when Hocus Pocus 2 premieres on Disney+ in 2022.
