Bette Midler Puts a Spell on Us With First “Hocus Pocus” Reunion Teaser

"'In Search of the Sanderson Sisters' is the best thing to happen to #Halloween since 'Hocus Pocus' + Reeses Pieces."

It’s not a bunch of hocus pocus: Your first look of the cast reunion of Hocus Pocus, Disney’s campy, Halloween-themed cult classic, has arrived.

This past weekend, triple threat Bette Midler—who starred as one of the three Sanderson sisters in the festive 1993 fantasy-comedy—teased an image from the forthcoming virtual reunion on social media. The event, titled In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover, is a benefit for the New York Restoration Project. Tickets cost $10, and each purchase will include details about how to watch the hourlong broadcast on Halloween weekend.

“Your 3 fav witches – @sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy & ME – are returning for 1 night only on 10/30 at 8p ET!” Midler wrote on Instagram. “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters is the best thing to happen to #Halloween since Hocus Pocus + Reeses Pieces.”

The event will also feature all-star guests like Todrick Hall, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, who is on board to host.

Although Hocus Pocus premiered nearly 30 years ago, queer and straight fans alike have clamored to see Midler and her co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, reprise their iconic roles. The original movie follows a teen boy who accidentally resurrects the Sanderson sisters after they were hanged for being witches in the 1600s. Hocus Pocus wasn’t a box-office success when it first premiered, but its campy vibes—and Midler’s iconic musical number, “I Put A Spell On You”—made the Halloween-y flick an instant cult classic.

This year’s virtual reunion isn’t the only development in the Hocus Pocus ’verse. As NewNowNext reported last October, Disney+, the media company’s streaming service, is currently developing a sequel to the original film. Will the new movie bring any overt queerness to the Sanderson sisters’ story? Only time will tell.

Get your Hocus Pocus fix this Halloween season with the virtual reunion, airing one time only on Friday, October 30 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Tickets are available now.
